YouTube Blocks TinyTube

Filed in archive Mobile Content by tom on January 28, 2007

Video service YouTube has blocked the company TinyTube from re-encoding videos uploaded to the video sharing site so they can be viewed on mobile handsets. The block comes, conicidentally, after YouTube struck a deal with US carrier Verizon to redistribute videos to mobile users.
TinyTube posted a comment on its forums on 30th November explaining that YouTube videos would no longer be available. YouTube and Verizon announced their tie up on 28th November.

TinyTube's Allen Day confirmed that it believed that the shutdownlinks was due to the Verizon deal. "We were informed by YT their action was largely due to pressure from their new mobile partner, Verizon," he told OUT-LAW.
