Yahoo! Top US Mobile Content Brand

M:Metrics says Yahoo! got an average of 12.8 million accesses per months during the 4th quarter of 2005. According to the company, Yahoo! led because of its broad base of offerings, whereas AOL is stronger in messaging:
"AOL owes its second-place position to its strength in mobile instant messaging (IM). About 89 percent of its mobile reach is comprised of users of AIM service. Yahoo! users are more likely to access other services, such as news, maps and search in addition to Yahoo IM, which is used by 73 percent of those who used Yahoo! branded services."Google, seemingly dominant on the Web, is also tops in mobile search at the moment, but just behind Yahoo! in mapping. All things considered, Google is doing well in spite of not having the sort of operator agreements Yahoo!, AOL and MSN have. It also may have the momentum among early adopters and more aggressive tech users, where as Yahoo!, AOL and MSN represent safe alternatives in a "walled-garden" environment. The question is, how long will that advantage of the walled garden last in the mobile world? On the Web, it slipped away from these leading content providers as more users became comfortable making their own choices. While they provide ease-of-use now, will they be able to provide better applications in the long run?
