Device Evolution

Though long anticipated, Nintendo announced a ship date for it's next gen console, Wii, as November 19, and a price of $249 (cheaper in Japan, but what's new?).
Microsoft's attempt at an iPod killer, the boring looking Zune, coming into focus with more detail being released this week. Microsoft, not surprisingly, has promised the moon with its upcoming product, saying it will be both a wireless media player AND a lifestyle brand, even hinting at a mobile phone model. While this is probably just vapor intended to rattle Apple's cage, it isn't out of the realm of possibility, as the next big wave of mobile devices will have some voice component to them, either proper cellular or VoWiFi.
Apple's iTV is probably the farthest of these three announcements from competing with current mobile services, but it does open the door to in-home wireless video streaming. As mobiles move more toward the use of WiFi as a carrier, they will increasingly bump into developments in the area of wireless home media, and wireless portable media, which are becoming one in the same themselves.

Unfortunately Scoble hits the nail on the head with his critical review of the Zune v’s the iPod.
