Is nothing sacred anymore? I just finished reading an article that said advertising to our cell phones is inevitable. I will agree with the article, that advertising on mobile phones has an enormous potential and we are probably years away from seeing anything major in this area. I do get an occasional message from my mobile carrier but usually don't give it the time of day and just delete it. To me this is a personal invasion of my time and property (my cell phone).
I personally don't see this coming along, unless, like the article says, ALL carriers agree to advertising. Can you imagine if everyone but one was advertising? Everyone would just switch over to the carrier with no advertising. AND even if they did, don't you think there would be just one smart person in this world that would offer a non-advertising cell phone service? I think you get the idea.
But, after thinking about this. The other angle might be something like: Hey, we will GIVE you a cell phone, or we will GIVE you free service, just look at our advertisement and acknowledge it. Sort of like click through points. That might work.

Ad subsidized mobile Internet access could work very well from my perspective. I do not understand why operators do not provide free access to their web&walk or vodafone live! portals in return for controlling the ads on these sites.

If you talked to the operators, you would understand that they do not understand. When you have 65 million customers with 50% paying $15 US/mo to access the Internet, you aren't thinking clearly enough to realize that if you gave the service away your online 'audience' would go up. And, if you can't recover $15/mo and more from me then maybe you should be in another business. Hmmmm! As to the advertising part, instrusive sms, text, etc., are here to stay just like spam, but the best instant solution out there right now is www.GripOffs.com where the User goes to the mobile site and obtains barcoded coupon offers in their area. For the advertisers, this instant changeable system allows them to monitor uses and stay ahead of the curve without intruding on the users in anyway. It's real simple. Advertising on mobile is the future and will explode soon. Its already been accepted by large numbers in Asia atleast in the age brackets of 18-34. Mobile coupons are being slowly accepted by even big giants of USA. Time is not far when most if not all companies will be utilizing this medium of direct to consumer advertising.
