If this is true, then Google Phone or GPhone is a big disappointment for many mobile enthusiasts anxiously waiting for the so-called next "iPhone killer".
Amid all these guessing games, the New York Times has revealed that "Google is not creating a gadget to rival the iPhone, but rather creating software that will be an alternative to Windows Mobile from Microsoft and other operating systems, which are built into phones sold by many manufacturers."

What makes it different from Microsoft is that this software will be based on open standards and more importantly, free. Lying at the end of this mysterious trail is Google's basic ambition to expand its online prowess to mobile Internet.
While this may break the hearts of many bloggers, who created this buzz in the first place, and mobile users, I find myself smiling and admiring Google's crafty machination to stir fear among established mobile companies and confuse the entire the world to protect its plans.
However, the mystery is not yet over so expect another series of twists and turns in this roller coaster ride called Google Phone.

They never meant to create a new kind of phone. That's not Google's core strengh. The right thing for them to do is focus on bring web content and search function to any mobile devices, not just "google phone".

Thinking that Google should release a "phone" is Telco 1.0 thinking. Why must our future be tied to recreating yet another voice network paradigm. I hope that their alternative way of thinking gets translated into the up and comming 700MHz auction. We need a mobile internet and "compelled" requirements for everthing from form-factor to PSAP connectiveity only holds us back.

The only hardware Google was making so far were servers and racks. So market experts rather don't expect from a company such as Google, which main product are services, to manufacture consumer devices. If you are comparing iPhone with "gPhone" and Apple with Google, you'll see that Apple have a huge experience in hardware and consumer electronics, when Google has almost nothing to do with that. It's just not their market segment, yet...
