Apple's iFamily is about to increase by a member if Verizon Wireless has its way. The wireless company is in talks with Apple to distribute a media pad device that would let users listen to music, view photos, watch high-definition videos and make calls over its Wi-Fi connection.
The device could best be compared to Amazon's Kindle electronic reader, but smaller in size with a larger color touch screen and the ability to act as a phone.
Until now, AT&T has been the exclusive U.S. carrier of Apple's iPhone. The company has said it is in talks with Apple to extend the partnership through 2011 but Verizon is itching for a piece of the pie as well. In addition to the iPad, Verizon is also in negotiations to bring the iPhone to its upcoming fourth-generation, or 4G, network. Apple has yet to commit on this proposal.
