I saw this over on Engadget this evening, and it caught my eye, as it obviously did the bods over there.
An enterprising hacker has written a java application (and associated Windows driver) that lets him use his Nokia mobile phone as a bluetooth mouse. The only real drawback is that the phone needs to be held just slightly above a surface with a pattern to allow enough light to reach the camera – but I'm sure if the code is ever released publicly some enterprising person will make little stick-on teflon pads…

How about determining the handset movement through a Motion Control Sensor chip – alleviates the air suspension issue and is already commercially avaialble in a number of Sharp devices!? (http://aichi-steel.co.jp/ENGLISH/TOPICS/topics214.htm)

“Pyrofer” decided to forgo the hardware modifications and instead write a Java code and corresponding Windows driver that would allow him to use his 6230i as an impromptu optical input device for when laptop trackpads and control nubbins just don’t cut it.
