Ubuntu, a very popular desktop Linux distribution, has released a version called Ubuntu MID. Planned to ship on commercial devices by the end of the year is planned to allow software to be ported to any willing device based on Intel's McCaslin or Atom processors.

The benefit of Ubuntu MID is to deliver Internet access on lightweight devices. This sould prove to be a very popular O/S for use with browsers, Flash, Java, as well as integration with Popular Social Networkinglinks sites and standard business applications like email, calendaring, documents, and media players.
