T-Mobile, the fourth-largest U.S. carrier, is hoping to increase its rank by launch its second smartphone to run Google's Android operating system in a few weeks.

While details aren't overly specific just yet, the new smartphone is slotted to run Google's codenamed "Cupcake" version of the operating system, which is currently hitting the streets for current T-Mobile G1 customers.

T-Mobile has sold over than a million G1 phones, made by HTC since it started selling them last year.

In the meantime Korean handset maker Samsung unveiled their latest handset, the Pixon12, which just so happens to be the first mobile phone to come with an internal 12-megapixel camera.

The handset will feature a 3.1-inch AMOLED screen with touch-based camera functions to let users tap the display to focus and track.

It also includes a 28mm wide-angle lens and Xenon flash and records 720 x 480 px video at 30 frames per second.

With high-speed HSUPA and Wi-Fi access, users can upload photos to popular social networking sites like Facebook and Flickr.

The Pixon is expected to hit Europe and Asia but plans to bring this handset to the US have not been finalized just yet. It looks like we Americans wishing for the highest mega pixel phone to date are going to have to peruse eBay.

Most new phones are only available on contract, with pay as you go mobile phones being available a few months later
