While the world awaits Yahoo's answer to the controversial $44.6 B bid from Microsoft, many analysts speculate its impact to the mobile space, particularly to Google.
Mobile media measurement firm M:Metrics predicts that this tandem, as expected, will result domination of the mobile messaging category (IM and email). Its combined U.S. subscribers will be more than 16 million while Google is stuck at 5.4 million.
But its combined strength is not enough to defeat Google in the mobile search category with its 7.7 million U.S. subscribers. Still, it will give them the chance to close the gap.
No wonder Google is pissed off about this acquisition. Too bad, it cannot even make a bid to Yahoo for fear of antitrust issues.

Hopefully someone else will come along and make an offer. I don't think Microsoft/Yahoo is a good fit.
