In a surprising move, Sprint has said that it is requiring all of the smartphones it carries to come equipped with Wi-Fi capabilities.
This will include an updated version of the much-anticipated Blackberry Tour, which was released for the Sprint network on Sunday.
In effort to keep up with rivals AT&T and T-Mobile, who have embraced the wireless technology, Sprint says that Wi-Fi connectivity is now a requirement for all of their PDA-equipment suppliers.
Interestingly the Blackberry Tour, which was released yesterday (July 12) does not make use of Wi-Fi connectivity on account of the fact that Sprint's latest announcement came just a day before the phone was released. Again though, expect an updated version (read: with Wi-Fi) of the Tour to hit Sprint within the upcoming year.
