Mobile OS developer Symbian, along with Nokia and Freescale Semiconductor have joined up to create a reference model for 3G development based on Symbian Series 60 OS. The three companies claim the move will greatly aid 3G device development for the middle market by cutting development costs by as much as half.
The reference model will be built on Freescale's MXC300-30 platform. Vodafone threw its weight behind the announcement, saying it hopes to see devices built on this reference model targeted at the middle market by 2007.
