Dozens of smartphone models have come along in recent months attempting to take a stab at Apple's dominance with features such as touchscreen capability, big library of apps, music playing, and zippy performance but electronics giant Sony has come up with a slightly different approach.
Sony Ericsson has confirmed that it is indeed developing a new smartphone capable of downloading and playing PlayStation games to counter the popularity of Apple's iPhone and curtail the rival's push into the portable-gaming market.
The company said its new PlayStation handset will work with Sony's forthcoming online media platform, the company's answer to iTunes, which it plans to launch in the U.S. later this month.
This new smartphone is expected to hit store shelves later this year, but details such as price and certain specifications have yet to be finalized.

I like what sony has done with some of their devices. They definitely like to try and go off the rails like everyone else. Some great MP3 functionality in the past, and their battery life seems to be way better than anyone else.
See some of their phones here:

Seems like a likely contender for the iPhone – perhaps even for those who were excited about WinMo 7 supporting Xbox, this should make the play station gamers happy now that they can have a phone that supports them.

This means, competition! If there is competition, the prices would be lesser by then. That’s good news to the buyers, consumers and gadget users. They have the option now when it comes to touchscreens with powerful applications that they are looking for in a phone.
