Intrepid researchers and those who just like to tear into shrinkwrap have found that Sling Media's new boxes may support both Symbian and Palm OSs in the near future. sling, the provider of set-top boxes that allow viewers to watch what's on their home TVs via PCs and laptops that are broadband-connected, launched a mobile client months ago, but only supported Windows Mobile. Now, the new Sling boxes being shipped carry a Symbian logo alongside other supported platforms, and a sticker covers what is revealed to be a Palm logo as well. Seems Sling guessed wrong about when the new platforms would be compatible.

Definitely looking forward to the Palm version, whenever that will come out.

Sling apparently mis-predicted the Symbian and Mac clients’ readiness (thus leaving them unstickered) but successfully estimated the Palm client would not be ready at the time of launch. So, what have we learned? Mac client: soon. Symbian client: probably lined up to be the next after the Mac client. Palm client: probably going to be the last.

I think I need some further technical specifications to realize what this device can do. I am interested in concrete practical implications because I realize it has a great mobile software.
