Sky Grabs Mobile Football Premiership Rights

Alongside the rights to the UK's Premier League football that Sky already enjoys, the company has also secured the mobile rights, beating out alternate bidder TWI. TWI, which is owned by the same company that owns respected UK production house Tiger Aspect, had been offering equal access to all the primary mobile carriers in the UK, with the operators assisting in financial side of the rights purchase.

Sky's deal, which will be announced today, will start from the 2007/2008 season, and will see Sky adding the mobile rights to the TV and online rights they already have.

As a result the mobile networks were wary of individually bidding in the auction of mobile rights, hence the decision to go along with TWI. They will now be faced with the job of doing individual deals with Sky.
