Samsung's New Operating System Coming Soon

Much to the delight of tech fans around the world, Samsung has confirmed that it will begin selling high-end phones based on its proprietary Bada mobile operating system in the coming weeks.

In effort to gain ground against rivals Apple and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion in the fast-growing smartphone market, Bada (which means ocean in Korean) is at the heart of the push. Using a touchscreen interface known as TouchWiz, Bada users can tap, swipe and drag items across the screen.

News of Bada-equipped handsets coming soon follows early last month, when Samsung outlined an aggressive plan that would introduce a third of its high-end devices with Bada software (and another half running Google's Android software).

Samsung says the first Bada smartphones will hit the U.K. and Germany in coming weeks, with other markets following shortly thereafter, and a dedicated app store will be live in June.

Really pleased to see that Samsung are forging ahead in the smart phone market, this leaves Sony Ericsson a little further behind. With this touch screen and OS it should get Apple and Blackberry thinking.
