RIMbian? Could the Blackberry Go Symbian?
According to Unstrung, a research report by an analyst with Nomuralinks theorizes that RIM may have to move the Blackberry to the Symbian OS in the next few years as it runs out of room for improvement in its current OS. Nomura analyst Richard Windsor says RIM's margins, currently based in part on the lack of a need for an additional application processor on the Blackberry, may fall as demand for more complex function in the device increases, stretching it to its limits.

A switch to Symbian would make sense, says Windsor, particularly as the Blackberry faces competition from more "well-rounded" smartphones. It would also be an advantage in penetrating Europe further, as Symbian smartphones are stronger in the region.
