Social networking sites are all the rage these days- Myspace, Facebook, Twitter- if it let's people connect, there will be people who want to be connected.
Smartphone maker Research In Motion (RIM) has launched their own new social network service available through its BlackBerry App World store in effort to help grow its online marketplace virally and gain ground on rival Apple's popular App Store.
This new site, called "MyBlackBerry," will gives users a venue to share opinions about their favorite applications and accessories, and share tips and tricks for using their devices.
Users will also be able to complain about their experiences providing the company with valuable feedback to improve their Blackberry smartphones.
Though the site is structured more like a bulletin board than a true social network (like Facebook), it will be personalized so users can connect with others using the same BlackBerry devices.
To provide a sense of scale here, consider this: Apple's App Store has more than 50,000 applications and over a billion downloads and counting, while the BlackBerry App World store has roughly 2,000 applications. RIM hopes the new social aspect of the site will virally grow its online app store.
The new site can be reached by clicking here.
