RAZR: Expensive Luxury or Mass-market Bling?
As I was walking through West LA the other day, an ad for the iconic Moto RAZR for $29.99 caught my eye. As I walked, I thought, "hang on, wasn't that a hugely expensive handset a year or two back?" Turns out Brendan at Gizmodo was thinking the same thing. Now that RAZRs are everywhere, and cheap (and frankly getting a bit on the tacky side). And I quote:

"So how did the $500 Razr, the must-have for slinky models and the fat catslinks who love them just two years back, become today's $29.99 Razr, the default phone for pretty much everyone? Or, more succinctly, how did the Razr get so low-end, so fast? Though the economies of scale and the high-end trend toward data phones played their roles, I'd argue that the Razr was always the proverbial perfumed pig."

Jump over and give it a read.
