Orange 30Mb Cap Proving Unpopular
Filed in archive Mobile Content by tom on June 7, 2007
I've been reading about Orange's flat-rate data plan and it's 30Mb data cap (per month!) for a few days now. With comparable services from other carriers like T-Mobile and 3 offering up to 1Gb a month, the 30Mb seems paltry in comparison, especially as it's also being offered at a higher rate than other carriers.

Now it appears the decision by Orange to impose this cap is starting to annoy customers.
Orange customers have taken to forums to vent their displeasure over the 30MB cap. On CoolSmartPhone.com's forum, user Surur wrote on Saturday: "I bought the SPV E650 [smartphone] from Orange last month on the strength of this [Monthly Anytime] press release. I now wonder if I will be able to cancel that contract." The forum's administrator, Gears, opined that "30MB is way, way, way too low to be useful and will just drive people away if it's true".
All these 'unlimited' data deals that aren't really unlimited makes me wonder why the regulator hasn't stepped in to enforce some clarity for customers who may be swayed by what is effectively deceptive advertising. The original press release (posted on CoolSmartPhones.com) certainly doesn't make any mention of data transfer limits, although to be fair they don't mention the word 'unlimited' either even though this is the impression that could be given.
