Being away travelling last week (as you may have noticed from the lack of posts) meant I missed the announcement of Nokia's new business-focusses handset, the E50.
With classic Nokia design, the small, sleek, and stylish Nokia E50 is also designed for people who want a single phone for both business and leisure use. For example, the device comes equipped with pre-installed business applications, exceptional voice and calling functionality, and the ability to have two phone numbers in one phone, while lifestyle features include an MP3 player and optionally a 1.3 mega pixel camera all packaged in a discreet glossy metallic case with a touch of color.
The new handset is aimed squarely at the business market, with built-in support for Intellisync Wireless Email by Nokia, BlackBerry Connect, Visto Mobile, Altexia, and Microsoft ActiveSync (Microsoft Exchange), as well as being a quad-band phone that will work just about anywhere.
The handset can also be integrated with some office PBX systems such as the Avaya Communication Manager, allowing the device to be used in place of a fixed line whilst in the office. The E50 also comes pre-installed with a subset of the Nokia Office Tools, as well as a 1.3megapixel camera, and an MP3 player for the exec on the go.

At first sight Nokia E50 strongly reminds of the Sony J70, which was a popular phone some years ago. Its long and narrow shape is quite distinctive. Probably the fans of J70 would enjoy the new E50 too. There are two versions of the handset, one with camera and one without. Their model names are respectively E50-1 and E50-2. Nokia wisely decided to launch a mid-to-low class Symbian smartphone as this is a huge market hole for people who need the features of a smartphone but cannot afford the more expensive ones. What is more, E50 performs very well.
