Nintendo Geekfest in NYC

Nintendo Geekfest in NYC

So, I am away with the missus for a long weekend in New York City, and we pop out of the subway around Rockefeller Center just in time to walk into a total fanboi-fest: the Metroid Prime Hunters Tourney at the Nintendo World Store, the Japanese game company's flasghip retail outlet in New York. As can be seen from the photo here, the place was heaving with teenage boys and their DS units, all scrambling for seats at successive knockout rounds of Metroid Prime Hunters, connected in groups of 8 or so by Wi-Fi. Presiding over the whole affair was a lonely looking Reggie Fils-Aime, EVP of Marketing for Nintendo America. As I walked by, I could overhear Reggie touting Nintendo's newly renamed Wii system, formerly known respectably as Revolution.

I don't know which was more sad: that I stayed for 10 minutes to watch the event, that Reggie explained to several people who walked by that "Wii is about…everyone…" or that there was a guy dressed as Mario. And he didn't work there.
