I was recently fortunate enough to be interviewed for a piece that has now appeared in InformationWeek, Forbes and a few other places on mobile innovations of the future. The collective opinions in the article represent an interesting view of the coming hotspots of innovation (no pun intended).
The key ones pointed out are:
- Mobile payment
- Mobile presence
- Ubiquitous computing
- Ubiquitous media
- Health applications
- People (and object) tracking
What else should be on this list for the next 5 years?

I can’t think of one right now, but due to the way this field goes on, I bet in five years time there will appear something that we can’t even imagine

Computing and media, I have some reservations. The reason being that most handsets despite the mantra of having more processing power than our desktops ten years ago are still cumbersome to manipulate as we do our notebooks. It takes getting used to and the perceived pervasiveness is not happening fast.
Media. Access to content is still too expensive as operators scramble for funds to pay for the expensive 3G/UMTS/EDGE licenses.
The others, I definitely so see success in.
