Well first we had portrait screens, then landscape mode, then phones with the ability to switch from one view to the other with the flick of a wrist. LG hopes taking the viewing trend to the next level will prove fruitful in developing their new Chocolate BL40, a widescreen handset with "split screen" technology that can display two views simultaneously.
This new Chocolate features a 4.0-inch widescreen high-definition LCD with an 800 by 345 pixel resolution and is overlaid with curved tempered glass.
The wider screen has a 21:9 aspect ratio so users can read Web pages without scrolling horizontally and comes with "Dual Screen UI" so users can display two different types of content simultaneously.
Believe it or not, the Chocolate, which LG debuted back in 2006, has earned a spot as the company's top selling model at some 21 million units worldwide.
Update: Fans of the LG Chocolate will be pleased to hear that the new LG Pop boasts even better features.

It looks really beautiful, quite an inspirational design for a phone. I think LG will do quite well in the current finincial climate.

A nice looking phone from LG. I’m curious to see this one up close and personal, especially in relation to the 21:9 aspect ratio.
When it comes to the mobile web, most companies and organisations really let the side down. A dedicated mobile web strategy is definitely something to be considered in 2009. LG however should be applauded for trying something new with this UI. Let’s hope it catches on.
We recently published a paper about the future of the mobile web which you can find here: http://tr.im/uTCe
