iPhone a 5 Year AT&T Exclusive in US?

Filed in archive Mobile Technologies by on May 26, 2007

Coming via Moconews is news from USA Today that the deal that will see the Apple iPhone released exclusively on AT&T in the US is for a longer period than most pundits originally thought - 5 years. Another part of the deal is that Apple are barred from developing a CDMA version of the handset for release in the US during this period, with the note that most other US carriers use CDMA networks (T-Mobile use GSM).
AT&T spokesperson Mark Siegel is reported as describing the deal as a perfect marriage by AFP, which also includes an opposing opinion. "Apple has a history of leaving its partners bleeding or bloody in the dust," analyst Rob Enderle told AFP..."You have the most power brand with the most powerful carrier. If it works out, you have a powerful partnership. But, this has all the earmarks of a really expensive divorce that will be historically memorable."
