Google's Revised Android Operating System Launches

It's common knowledge that the smartphone industry demands constant innovation to keep an edge over the competition. To that end Google has introduced a new version of its Android mobile operating system, called "Froyo," which aims to target many common complaints with the current software.

The new build includes new features such as hardware acceleration of video and smooth navigation of Flash-enabled Web sites. With a few exceptions, a majority of smartphones on the market today have been limited in terms of displaying Flash content despite the fact that the standard delivers some 75% of online videos worldwide.

Other features of Froyo include the ability to tether a laptop to the phone, a faster, more powerful browser, a manager to store applications on a microSD card, improved security and refinements to Gmail, calendar and voice recognition software.

Nexus One owners will be able to upgrade to Android 2.2 over-the-air immediately. HTC Incredible, Evo 4G, Desire and Motorola Droid users will receive it in the coming weeks.
