Although it is not secret that Google is planning to dominate the mobile industry, we might just be seeing the tip of the iceberg. More than the acquisition of GrandCentral, the Internet search giant is gunning for significant market share in mobile ads.
Moreover, the rumor about development of Google phone remains strong based on recent projects or initiatives by this company. The Wall Street Journal has a comprehensive write up about Google's adventures in the mobile industry.
For wireless operators, the plans are a double-edged sword. Google's powerful brand and its popular Web services could help operators sign up more subscribers to data packages, on which they increasingly rely as voice revenue declines. However, operators have been wary about losing control over the mobile-ad market.
There is no doubt Google has a chance to be a powerful Challenger in this industry. What we must anticipate is who will be the first company to lose market share in upcoming war.

If Google can add something fresh and dynamic to the mobile data experience then most operators would welcome that market entry. Whether the company can achieve a pre-eminent position in search applications on mobile phones remains to be seen. But if they can do so – then I can only see up side for users and, of course, operators by implication.
