Both Nokia and SonyEricsson have raised forecasts for mobile phone markets in the past two days, both seeing good response by consumers to the shift to more media-based handsets, like the Walkman phone seen here.
SonyEricsson sees the total volume of handset sales rising into the future based on a 41% rise in sales in the most recent quarter. Nokia saw its average selling price rising as well, moving back toward the higher average sales of last year.
These changes emphasize the emerging polarity of global mobile markets – with increasing demand for low-end, low-cost devices for newer, younger and older customers in developing countries and developed markets, and high-end feature-packed devices for more Mature markets and the top tier customers in new markets.
