Several telecom companies met with the FCC last week to voice their disapproval of the FCC's planned auction of wireless space under the condition that the auction winner would use it as free Internet (with porn filters). The companies in question asked the FCC to reconsider this spectrum auction.

AT&T, Motorola, T-Mobile and texas instruments were among the companies who expressed concern for the notion. T-Mobile had recently asked the FCC to spend more time testing white spaces stating concern about potential interference.

The specific grievances of the other companies were not made public. The FCC is still weighing when to auction off this new spectrum while simultaneously fielding complaints from current wireless providers. While the most common complaint is the potential for interference, it is quite obvious that companies rightfully fear that they will be unable to compete with the free Internet should they be outbid on the auction block. At present the FCC has not announced any concrete decisions.
