Mobile Content

I'm going to have to bring out the 'obvious' tag for this one, coming to us from Moconews once more. According to a recently released report from Harris Interactive shows that whilst a fairly significant portion of UK mobile users have tried the mobile internet, only 10% or so used it more than once a week.
The 16-24 age bracket were the most common users, with 53 percent having tried it and 19 percent using it at least once a week. Likewise, males were more likely than females to search the mobile internet, with 36 percent of males trying it (13 percent at least once a week) and 22 percent of females trying it (5 percent at least once a week). Now for the obvious bit:
Tom Perrott comments further, "Repeat use of mobile internet will depend on what is available on this platform and like mobile TV will be driven by content. Previous Harris Interactive research that looked at uptake of mobile internet indicated that TV sport was the most desired content when on the move. Major sporting occasions, particularly tournaments, may Boost Mobile Internet trial and then subsequent use."For many years it's been obvious that it is content that will drive uptake of certain services, but the providers of those services always seem slow to realise this - for example, online game playing and ADSL uptake. Given that the mobile internet is still relatively unfriendly to use, there really needs to be compelling content to bring users back, something which I thought would have been obvious.
