Donate Your Old Mobile Phones and Help Save the World
Filed in archive Mobile Society , Mobile Technologies on April 17, 2007
ReCellular, a leading recycler of mobile phones, is encouraging us to take an active part in saving the environment by simply donating our old, worn-out phones.
The PR cites low consumer awareness as the main barrier for this project. I do hope this simple post will inspire others to be responsible. I also encourage other blogs to take an active part in Green Revolution and help promote this project.
The hypercompetitive nature of mobile industry made product development faster than ever, consequently shortened its life cycle, and rendered numerous products obsolete. In terms of statistics, 1 out of 3 Americans will replace phones this year, equivalent to 500 million units set for resale or recycle.ReCellular expects to collect 4 million phones in 2007, with support from retailers, charity groups and grassroots organizations. These partners create a nationwide network of more than 40,000 sites that collect cell phones of every make, model and age - enabling consumers to donate cell phones safely and conveniently.
ReCellular pays up to $50 for each donated phone, with proceeds benefiting charities such as the March of Dimes, cell phones for soldiers, and domestic violence prevention and education programs.
"Our greatest challenge is consumer awareness. We know more people would donate cell phones if they knew the simple act of dropping their old phone in a collection box benefited both the environment and a worthy cause like March of Dimes."
Again, have a heart and do your part!
