Debitel Brings Samsung Mobile TV Handset to Europe

Samsung has done a deal with German carrier Debitel to bring the first commercial DMB based mobile TV service service to Europe. Launching on May 31st - in time for the FIFA World Cup - subscribers wil be able to watch World Cup games on the Samsung P900 (pictured) when it is released in June.

Mobile TV service will be available in five major cities of Germany. The service will start in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt and then will spread to more major German cities during the next month.

Paul A. Stodden, CEO of Debitel said, "German is an ideal market to be the first in Europe to launch the DMB mobile TV service. '2006 FIFA World Cup' is taking place and people will enjoy watching live soccer broadcasts. With the help of our DMB service, our customers will not miss any of the action and excitement of the World Cup soccer matches. We are also delighted to work with Samsung and through this cooperation, becoming Europe's first to commercially launch mobile DMB TV service ".

Kitae Lee, President of Telecommunications Network Business at Samsung Electronics said, "We are very pleased to introduce Europe's first T-DMB mobile TV phones with Debitel, one of the most innovative mobile service providers, in Germany where the '2006 FIFA World Cup' is being hosted. I firmly believe that the World Cup along with the newly introduced Mobile TV service will give us big momentum for growth."

"We will continue to lead the global Mobile TV phone market with advanced technologies and ergonomic designs providing the best experience for mobile TV viewing." he added.

The P900, which is most notable for it's rotating screen, also has a 2 megapixel camera, digital audio playback support, bluetooth and in-built stereo speakers.

Response from: Virgin Mobile Phones (08/21/08 4:04am) The Samsung F110 Adidas miCoach is a dual band phone so it will work across Europe but beyond that there are several countries where it won't work. It has EDGE which is faster than GPRS, but this still isn't the best phone for web browsing considering the relatively low cost of 3G phones. The battery life for the F110 isn't terrible at 2.5 hours of talk time or 250 hours on standby quoted by Samsung, but that clearly could have been better, especially with the relatively high battery usage of running miCoach with 3 bluetooth devices connected.
