Continental Airlines Testing Mobile Boarding Pass

Less than 2 months since I wrote about cellphones as boarding pass, it is now a reality in the U.S.

Continental Airlines is holding a 3-month trial allowing passengers at Bush Intercontinental Airport to board flights with just their mobile phones.

Each passenger will get a 2-D bar code containing the name and flight information. In the airport, the Transportation Security Administration will check if the code is authentic using a handheld scanner. Still, an ID is required to complete the entire boarding process.

As expected, there are already some glitches seen in this trial. For one, mobile boarding pass works only for passengers traveling alone. Hopefully, it will be resolved once Continental upgraded its technology to handle this process.

Other airlines planning in using this mobile technology are Delta and U.S. Airways.

    What a ridiculous idea. Cellphone
security is not great (see iphone
hacks) and there is just too much
    scope for hacking or malicious
    behaviour
