Cingular to Shut Non-GSM Nets by 2008

MobileTracker has flagged Cingular CEO Stan Sigman's announcement to attendees at TelecomNext this week that his company plans to shut down all non-GSM networks it operates by 2008, the earliest date allowed by the Feds. While the big orange jumping jack still has two million-odd customers still on the TDMA networks it acquired when it merged with AT&T Wireless in 2004, some 95% of its network traffic runs over its GSM networks.
