Blockbuster to Bring Movies to Motorola
Filed in archive Announcements on August 18, 2009

The times are a changing. Movie viewers are doing away with the concept of requiring a piece of media to enjoy a film. As a result, DVD renting is on the decline and rental chains like Blockbuster are feeling the squeeze. Facing competition from Netflix, Redbox to video download services such as Amanzon.com, and iTunes, Blockbuster has developed a deal to offer movies for download that can be viewed on some Motorola handsets.
Not yet determined are such facts as when the new service will be available or how much it will cost, but Blockbuster says it will be an expansion of its OnDemand movie downloading service currently offered through TV set-top boxes.
The collaboration is a measure of expectation to both companies, as both have been in search of new draws that could potentially boost sagging sales.

Downloadable movies for mobile devices is something which is sorely needed to help ailing companies such as Blockbuster. It would be a shame, however, if this was restricted to Motorola handsets.
