If you trawl the blawgosphere lately you will see that two poorly concealed product releases are begging for attention like an ignored child. The Blackberry Pearl is out on T-Mobile and Rogers and has been getting good reviews as a consumer-friendly device that still has the core Crackberry features. Am I the only one who wonders why there wasn't a product tie-in with Pirates of the Caribbean II? Just askin'.
The other smartphone looking for a date is the Nokia E62, which I have talked about here before. Rogers also has the E62, the bastard North American child of the E61, first. I got to handle the E61 in Helsinki at a couple of shops, and it does have a nice look and feel, not as sexy as the Pearl, but overall better weight and feel, though it is definitely a business device. Without the WLAN or 3G, it's just doesn't seem as exciting, though.
One thing I did notice on my recent travel binge is how many Americans are carrying Treos and Blackberries abroad and in US airports. Oh, and how big the PSP and DS are outside the US as well. And how nice the handsets are once you escape the blandscape that is US mobile culture. So many flavors, so many accessories, such civilized usage patterns (Dorkbot belt clip or giant holster? Not in Europe mes amis!) On the trip back? 20-somethings with scratched-up RAZRs. So predictable.

Nokia developers just copied Blackberry. And they even don’t deny it! From this days I won’t buy any Nokia product

I shall not understand why price E62 and E61 so strongly differ?

I have to disagree with the “Nokia copied blackberry” comment..other than the fact that it supports blackberry among other email clients the e61 is not anything like a blackberry at all, it runs on symbian, to begin with, it has wifi,3G and EDGE (most blackberries now only support EDGE) yes I agree that the e61 developed the e61 to compete with the blackberry but thats about it.. as far as price the e62 is roughly half of what the e61 is going for these days…why cheaper? well no wifi or 3G..and cingular will have you sign up for 2 years probably and you will have to sign up for a data plan as well..the price difference is part of the subscriber acquisition cost that cingular eats up..

Those bragging rights will cost you $249.99 Canadian if you sign a three-year contract, $399.99 for a two-year deal, or $449.99 if you just want to be tied down for one. Push email on the device comes in the form of Rogers MyMail system, which is powered by Visto. The handset itself is, of course, otherwise the same as what’ll be available stateside sooner or later, with a 2.8-inch QVGA display, Bluetooth, 240 minutes promised talk time, 14 days standby time, 90MB built-in memory, a microSD slot for expansion, and USB mass storage support, among other goodies, which unfortunately doesn’t include WiFi.

it’s only marketing in my opinion, forcing people to buy what they want.
