We've been hearing about it for some time now, but it appears PC giant Acer is getting ever-closer to releasing a host of smartphones.
Acer, currently the world's second-largest PC maker, plans to introduce a total of four new handsets in the third quarter that will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor and run its own user interface, Shell version 4.0, and Google's Android or Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system.
In addition to smartphones, the company also said it plans to unveil an entire family of Internet devices by the end of May! Details on these devices are slim to none as of yet but hint toward the firm's dedication to mobile technology.
The first Acer models came on the scene last year (the Tempo DX900, X960, M900 and F900) but failed to make the impact Acer was expecting. The company hopes it's latest quartet of handsets will be better received although analysts suspect that Hewlett Packard's recent buy-out of Palm will make it even more difficult for other PC-makers to "make a splash" in the highly competitive smartphone industry.
